Fitting your XTERN
How do I order the right size?
The XTERN comes in 4 sizes: pediatric, small, medium and large.
We've made ordering your new XTERN Foot Drop AFO online as easy as possible. With your sex and shoe size - we are able to custom fit your brace to comfortably fit your athletic shoes. Simply visit the shop to select the XTERN product and enter your sex and shoe size.
Your XTERN will be in the post same day if ordered before 2pm PT.
How do I attach the clips to my shoes?
Fitting the clips on your shoes is pretty easy! Included in your XTERN package will be shoe clips and zip ties. You will simply connect the shoe clips to the front eyelets of your shoes with the zip ties and easily attach your XTERN Brace each morning.
To make this easier for you, we made a quick video you can watch.
You will also receive easy to follow attachment instructions in your kit when you order the XTERN Brace.
What type of shoes does the XTERN fit?
This is one of the best parts! The XTERN will fit onto nearly every shoe. The only requirement is that you need to have laces or a sturdy strap across the foot, and a heel on the shoe. It will fit on athletic shoes, hiking boots, work boots, sandals, dress shoes.
IF your shoe does not have a place to attach the clips - but does have material over the toe (think a man's dress shoe or loafer) - you can take your shoes to a cobbler to have holes drilled and eyelets placed directly onto the shoe for attachment.
You are going to be amazed at how many shoes you can enjoy using the XTERN.
How do I put the brace on each day?
Great question! You will find your flow of how you like to put the brace on after a few times. In saying that, depending on your mobility, you could sit on the floor or a chair to slip into your XTERN brace each morning.
1. Attach your XTERN onto your shoe. The clip will already be installed (see "How do I attach the clips to my shoes" for help if needed.
2. Once the XTERN is resting on your shoe, slip your foot in through the side of your shoe -- from either direction
3. WIth your foot resting in your shoe, move the calf pad behind your calf
4. Make sure your foot is comfortable, lace up your shoe and attach the velcro strap across your shin.

Insurance Reimbursement
Will insurance cover this?
Depending on your plan, your insurance may or may not cover this. Reimbursement can vary depending on your plan. Please consult your insurance provider.
As a recommendation, two HCPCS (Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System) insurance codes to review with your insurance provider:
- L1951: Ankle foot orthosis, spiral, (institute of rehabilitative medicine type), plastic or other material, prefabricated, includes fitting and adjustment. (applicable because this is a custom fit product)

What is the warranty on the XTERN?
We are so confident in the XTERN and have put this product through some incredibly intense tests (think cold, ice climbing, mountain hiking tests!). That being said, it is still a physical product and things happen! We will completely cover any breaks to your Brace within 2 YEARS of your purchase. No questions - we've got you!
Just send us an email to hello@kevinorthopedic.com and include a picture (so that we can improve our product), subject line: XTERN Warranty
After the 2 years, replacing parts for your brace is simple. Each piece of the XTERN can be purchased individually and we will either repair the brace in our offices (after you mail it back to us), or we will send you instructions on how to repair. Again, email hello@kevinorthopedic.com, including a picture and let us know what's happening and we will get back to you straight away!
What is the return policy?
The purpose of the XTERN is to change lives. We are watching this happen across the globe every, single, day. If for some reason you receive your brace, try it for a couple of days and it isn't supporting your condition - please email hello@kevinorthopedic.com and we will walk you through the refund process. Subject: XTERN Refund.
If we receive the email within the first 30 days of purchase, we will 100% refund your money minus shipping, no questions asked. If you are outside the 30 day period, we will send your options for refunds and partial refunds.
